Houston Replacement Window Options

Lifetime Warranty Information

The windows that came with your new house or the windows that came with the pre-owned home you purchased are likely energy inefficient. You may be paying high electric bills unnecessarily due to heat transfer through these windows. Texas experiences particularly hot summers and air conditioning costs easily exceed the cost of heating in the winter. Staying cool during Texas summers costs a lot of money with the wrong windows.

Older homes may have single-pane windows which allow heat to transfer easily from the outside to the interior of your home. The transfer of heat to your home’s interior comes not only from the thin single pane of glass but also from air leaks in the windows and frames.

Newer homes are often constructed with low budget windows to sell the home more easily. You probably got a good deal on the house but may suffer high electric bills due to the low-budget windows selected by the building contractor to keep the costs down.

New window options can confuse first-time shoppers. Below are a few basic options you should be prepared to discuss with any contractor offering a quote for replacement windows in your home.

Single Hung – This means the bottom portion of your window (Also known as the lower sash) will be free to move up and down, open and close. This is a very common feature with older windows.

Double Hung – Both the upper sash and lower sash (Window panes) can be raised and lowered. Many people enjoy the option to open the upper sash only, especially with small children who may find open windows tempting invitations.

Double Paned – In a double-paned window there will actually be two plates of glass. Each plate of glass is typically separated by about 1/4 inch. The space between the panes provides insulation from the heat and cold outside. In newer windows a gas heavier than air such as Argon or Krypton will be injected between the panes which provide additional insulation.

Argon Gas Insulated Windows – Argon gas occupies the space between the two panes of glass. Argon is completely safe and provides more insulation from heat and cold than air. Argon gas filled windows are often considered to be the high industry standard for quality thermal insulated windows.

Krypton Gas Insulated Windows – Krypyon gas occupies the space between the two window panes. Better than Argon gas, Krypton gas filled windows provide superior insulation from the heat and cold outside. Krypton gas windows are not available from all manufacturers.
